Outdoor Living – How to Build a Brick Patio

When it comes to enjoying your home, there is not much that you will bring you more pleasure than an outside living space. And this space starts with a new patio. Your patio can be built in a number of different ways, ranging from concrete and tile to brick and pavers.

Today, we are going to discuss installing a brick or concrete pavers patio. While there are certain differences in these two construction methods, they are very similar. And you will find once you know how to do one, you can easily modify your procedures for the other. Like most construction projects, building a patio just requires you following a system of steps. Just make sure your measurements are accurate and you follow each step completely.

Just like with most construction projects, your first step is to plan and then mark out your patio. Measure out the size you are looking for, and then mark it with stakes and string, or a garden hose. Keep in mind that a rectangular design will be easier to work with than a curved patio. Once your patio is marked out, double check your measurements, and ensure the patio is square. To do this, measure diagonally from each corner to the opposite corner. The measurements should be the same.

After the area has been marked out, it is time to excavate. Dig out the patio to a depth of 6 – 8″ depending on the bricks or pavers that you are using. Make sure you “slope” this area so that water will run away from your house. This slope should be about 1/4″ per foot.

At this point, it is wise to lay out your bricks and do a “test fit” to ensure that your patio will work out without needing to cut bricks at every row. You should have about 2″ of dug out area on each side of the bricks if you are planning to use bricks as an edging. If you are using edging, such as bricks laid on end, now is the time to add them. Then, remove the “test” bricks you laid earlier.

Choose your base material carefully based on your location and the type of installation. For brick, the best bedding is sand or crushed stone. Fill in the excavated area to the recommended depth and then level it. For a brick installation, this level will be to 2″ below the tops of the edging. Make sure your sand is very smooth, or you will have a very difficult time getting your bricks or pavers to lay straight. Tamp down the sand well to form a stable base. Finally, it is time to lay out your bricks and pavers in your chosen configuration.

Start at one corner, and lay one brick at a time. As you are setting the brick, press it firmly in the sand, and then hit it with a rubber mallet to set it. Keep bricks together as tightly as possible. Once all the bricks or pavers are installed, you should spread sand over the top, and the sweep into the cracks. This will ensure that the bricks are firmly set. Spraying the bricks with water will further pack the sand tightly between them.

Building a new patio will form the foundation of your new outdoor living space. It is a time consuming project, but if you are careful, it is a job that can be tackled by you as a home owner. If you do not have the time or patience, you will need to find a professional contractor to build it for you. Look at some of the many different materials and configurations that are available for building a new patio. Match up the look with the look of your home. After your new patio is built, you can then begin the fun job of furnishing your outdoor living space. As a Central Government agency UIDIA aims at providing the identification card Aadhaar to every India. This is a program that will provide a unique identity number to every citizen of India. The UIDAI will be solely responsible for managing the database of those enrolled.

The evaluation is done using the biometric system for the first time in the country. This system is also being implemented in for Pan Card and Passport issuance. Biometric systems analysis many aspects of human body in order verify unique characteristics of an individual. There few biometric devices that are used for this verification. These are Iris, Fingerprint and Face Scanners.

Aadhaar number is twelve digit and will be printed on laminated a Card. The main objective is to improve electoral process and the subsidies and schemes offered by the Government. This will also improve procedure to detect illegal migration in the country.

Enrolling for this unique number is not compulsory but those who do will receive greater benefits. In time to come many offices and financial institutions will require this number. In future various identification document would linked to Aadhaar.

Some of the documents to be linked are Indian Passport, Driving License, PAN Card, Voter Card, resident proof etc. Hence this will become a single source of furnishing one”s identity in India. Furnishing various legal proof documents would be a thing of past.

Modern Dollhouses- A Surprisingly Wonderful Hobby

Looking for a getaway? You know, the kind of place that you can go to escape from the stress and pressure of, well, just living. If that is what you are looking for then you need a hobby. And the hobby that I would like you to consider is building, or at least collecting, modern dollhouses.

Your initial reaction is likely, You have got to be kidding! How is that a getawayor an escape? Sounds like a toy for kids.

Well, actually, I was right where you are a while back. I surely wasnt looking for a hobbyand even if I was, anything associated with dollhouses would be the furthest thing from my mind.

In fact, I didnt find a dollhouse hobby. It found me. And I have my granddaughter to thank for that.

It all started with wanting to get her the perfect Christmas gift. Since she had a bunch of dolls my wife suggested that we start looking at dollhouses. Before long, we found one that we liked on the internet and we ordered it.

The dollhouse arrived a few days before Christmas and I began the not so easy task of assembling the house. On Christmas Eve we proudly placed the finished dollhouse by the Christmas tree, anticipating that our granddaughter was going to love her gift.

Then came Christmas day and, sure enough, our granddaughter loved her gift. Quickly, she ran for her dolls, gathered them up, and hauled them to her new dollhouse. But suddenly, joy turned to sadness when she discovered that her dolls were like giants in comparison to the house. When ordering the house I had no idea that only certain houses accommodate the size of todays most popular dolls. Houston, we have a problem!

So, we came up with two possible solutions. We could order another dollhouse scaled for her dolls or, we could order dolls and accessories to match the size of the existing dollhouse. After some discussion we all agreed, granddaughter included, that the house was indeed wonderful and the best solution was to accessorize the new house.

With one failed effort under my belt I was determined not to mess up again. This time I did considerable research before making additional purchases.

The first thing I learned came as quite a surprise. What I thought was a simple toy for kids turned out to be a huge hobby for adults. Dollhouse hobbyistsboth builders and collectors are incredibly passionate about their hobbies and they love to talk about their chosen craft. The information that I needed was abundantly available.

In the process we discovered that just about anything available in the way of architecture, furnishings, and accessories has made it to the world of miniature dollhouses. And the first question that we always got when talking to a dollhouse collector was, What kind of house do you have?

The house we had purchased from all the many styles was a modern dollhouse. Actually, we were just looking for something that we thought our granddaughter would like. But the more we researched modern dollhouses the more we realized that modern dollhouses offered more material choices and greater opportunities for creativity.

I guess you have figured out that by this time we were hooked on dollhouses, and in particular, modern dollhouses. What followed was an obsession with decorating, furnishing, and finding the perfect dolls (and clothing) to go with our granddaughters modern dollhouse.

Now we had something that provided not only great interest for our granddaughter, but something that had captured our imaginations as well.

So, we worked together on the project, and the process of ordering accessories took us around the world. That is, we ordered select pieces from around the world thanks to the help of the World Wide Web.

When you become passionate about a hobby you get so caught up in it that it actually becomes a place of escape. You quickly learn that in stressful times you can throw your mind and energy into your project and forget your troubles. Moreover, its not something that you can only do a couple of times a year when your vacation time rolls around, but something you can do every day if you are so inclined.
